Yaha Maps

Established in 2025, Yaha Maps brings together design-focused cartography expertise with decades of experience exploring the backcountry of the Canadian Rocky Mountains. The name is derived from the area featured in the first map, the Ya Ha Tinda west of Sundre, Alberta. A variant spelling of îyârhe in the Stoney Nakoda language, “yaha” means “mountain” or “rock”. Ya Ha Tinda is loosely translated as “prairie in the mountains” owing to the beautiful expanse of open rolling hills nestled between Front Range peaks in the area.

The Ya Ha Tinda and Surroundings Trail Map, first published in March 2025, is the result of years of exploring the area by experienced hikers, climbers, and backcountry travellers. All trails and routes were verified on the ground, representing several thousand cumulative kilometers hiked.
